AP new - synopsis.jpg

No weakness.
Maxim has stayed alive—and on top—for twenty years through a ruthless combination of brains and brutality. He’s grown the Syndicate into one of the world’s most powerful criminal enterprises.
He cares for no one.
Except her.
The woman he never should have saved…the one who holds the remnants of his long-dead heart.
No limits.
Senna doesn’t know why Maxim spared her all those years ago, or why he’s kept her by his side. But she does know that nothing—not his beautiful cruelty, not the black void where his heart should be—can stop her from loving him. Wanting him.
Even though she shouldn’t.
No turning back.
Years of obsession sharpen to a knife’s edge when Senna begins to crave her freedom. And when an old rival discovers her existence, Maxim must fight to keep her alive, even as he battles his need to possess her completely…no matter the cost.
AP new - excerpt.jpg
“Your visitor? Was that business?” I said, voice low, tight with anger I tried not to show him, hurt I’d sworn I would never show him. That anger, that jealously was mine to carry, and my pride stung at the idea of Maxim knowing about it. But despite my best efforts, my emotion was apparent.
To the undiscerning eye, it would have looked like Maxim had no reaction to my question. But my eye was discerning, and I had spent a great deal of my life studying him. So I saw the change, the slight flare of his nostrils, the way he momentarily thinned his lips, the way his jaw ticked. Only once, but once was enough. He was irritated. At my question or the emotion with which I’d asked it, I wasn’t sure.
“Asking questions about my business, Senna?” he said after he’d regained his composure.
I, however, had not regained mine.
“Is that what you call it?” I said, feeling reckless now as my gaze locked with his.
“Something on your mind, Senna?” he asked, his voice dripping with menace and warning.
I didn’t care.
“I know what you do with them,” I said.
“You know what I do with them?” he said, mimicking my words, giving me an opportunity to walk them back, an opportunity to let this go.
No chance that was happening now. I nodded, anger that had exploded full force making it impossible for me to stay quiet.
“Yeah. I do,” I said.
To my own ears my voice sounded malignant with anger, anger that was unjustified, indefensible, and more intense than almost any had ever felt.
“Tell me, Senna. What do I do with them?” he said, his eyes narrowing slightly for less than a split second, but his face almost instantly returning to its falsely placid default expression.
I narrowed my eyes at him, saw the slightest change in his expression. I had his complete attention now, and I could see he was curious as to how this would play out.
That was Maxim, always curious, always wondering, but rarely—never—giving anything away. That enraged me further. Why was I at the mercy of emotions I shouldn’t even feel while he got to stay distant, detached?
On any other day I would have tried to excuse my behavior, tried to smooth my momentarily lapse over and go back to pretending.
Today wasn’t any other day.
I couldn’t say why, and I had no clue what the consequences might be, but I was feeling brave, stupid with my anger. So I didn’t walk the words back, didn’t try to smooth them over.
I answered.
“She was one of your whores. You fuck them,” I said, proud when my voice barely cracked over the word “fuck.”
Maxim glared at me, his icy stare enough to make anyone cower. I was in no mood to cower, and for once, I didn’t care about his displeasure. He waited, no doubt expecting me to apologize for my language.
He’d be waiting for a very long time.
“I fuck them?” he finally said, his voice deep with his displeasure, his eyes dark with the same.
I nodded, not in any mood to speak.
“How do you know?” he asked, his eyes darkening further, his expression dropping into a foreboding frown.
I swallowed, frowned, and then, finally, spoke. “I saw you once.”
He leaned forward, the curiosity overtaking his anger. “What you see?” he asked.
I tilted my head toward his desk. “She was there, in front of you. On her knees.”
The words came out jerky with anger I wanted him to see, desire I didn’t.
“And you stayed? Watched?” he said.
I nodded, watching his expression for some sign of a change. I saw it too, a slight deepening of his eyes unlike any I’d seen before.
“What did you think when you saw that, Senna?” he asked, his voice grating out of his throat roughly.
I locked eyes with his, watched the darkness there get deeper, and decided in that moment to tell him the truth, consequences be damned.
“I wished I was her.”

Layers of Her by Prescott Lane

ARC provided by Ardent PRose for honest review.

I finished this book two days ago, and I have to worst case of book hangover ever. This is my must read book of the year. While this book has a warning about it dealing with rape, I did not see the plot going the way it did.

This book will have you thinking about the survivors and how they deal with the carnage left behind. There is NO graphic details regarding the heinous act of rape, but more of the dealing of it after the fact. This book reminded me a lot of the Fading Series by E.K. Blair. I cried during this book, I cried for  Campbell and her daily dealings with her dark thoughts. This book certainly put a new twist on a survivor. I loved this book for Stone, and how he was able to handle Campbell. I really loved how he always gave her the choice, as he knew something horrible had happened to her. And no matter what Campbell chose, her heart always led her back to Stone.

I was so glad to have had the opportunity to read this book. Prescott Lane is an amazing writer, and this is by far her best book. She toed the line of a very real nightmare any woman could endure and was able to deliver a powerful message about being a survivor and how it doesn't define you.

If you don't read a single book, reconsider it. This book will leave you wanting more from the fabulous author.

Desire: A Stepbrother Romance by Vesper Vaughn

ARC generously provided in exchange for honest review.

I have said this already, but MAN I LOVE VESPER VAUGHN'S BOOKS!!!

I found her by accident, and now I'm an addict. So much so that I am scouring my kindle for more stepbrother romances.

This book was just as amazing as the first book I had read by her. This book follows Dylan and Darcy who are.... Yep you guessed it, step-siblings. These two are HOT for each other, and have been since the day they met.

I felt that this book was tastefully written (I have come across some step-brother books that grossed me out completely). Darcy and Dylan's parents were married after both of them were older, and Darcy had had a crush on her older step-brother from the get go.

This book was a quick read (I know it took me 2 days to read it, which isn't quick for me, stinking yard work) that will leave you wanting more of Dylan and Darcy. I am in awe of Ms. Vaughn and I truly cannot wait to see what she brings to the table next. Rest assured that it will be amazing like all of her other books I have read.

Panty Melting Factor: 5 scorching hot panties. Dylan really knows how to be the man Darcy needs. These two are HOT!

A Letter to my Readers

Rape. Just typing that word makes my gut tie up in knots. And that’s part of the problem.
Because it’s so uncomfortable, we don’t want to talk about it. So it gets buried at the bottom the newsfeed or forgotten altogether, like the backlog of untested rape kits.

Last March, I released Quiet Angel in which the heroine is a survivor of childhood sexual assault. A few weeks later, my husband became gravely ill, and we spent the rest of the year (5 long hospital stays and 4 long surgeries) fighting to regain his health. As I sat in the hospital chair next to his bed night after night, I got messages from women about how my book touched them. Some shared their reasons, and others didn’t.

I came to learn that April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month. How could I not know that? just released a book on the very topic. Yet I didn’t see one post about it on any of my social media accounts.

Early this year, I began writing Layers of Her with the intent to spread awareness and donate of April's profits to charity. I was nervous when I started, and I still am. I mean, how much the profits be? Will readers assume I’m a survivor or I know one? Will I do the topic justice?

Why am I doing this? It’s a whole lot easier to stay silent. But that’s the whole problem, isn’t I work in a field, in the genre of fiction, that is mostly comprised of women, where sexual assault is one of the most common tropes. And with each passing page, we pull for our broken heroes and heroines to heal, find love, forge a new path. That's all we want for them. We need to do same for the real life heroes and heroines, those brave souls who fight the real fight every single day. So join me this April in making some noise to raise awareness, not only for the survivors but for those who love them.

AP new - synopsis.jpg

People always say it’s what’s on the inside that matters. If that’s the case, I’m screwed. On the outside, everything looks put together — blonde hair, blue eyes, tall and lean. By society’s standards, I’d be considered attractive. But f*ck society, I know what I am. I know what I’m made of. The recessive genes that reared their heads and created a decent looking package on the outside don’t make me who I am. What about all the evil lurking inside? What about all the other parts of me that aren’t so easy to see? Some of the most beautiful animals are also the deadliest. Take the polar bear, for example. Cute and cuddly on the outside, but it’s really a predator that will bite your f*cking head off. That’s a dangerous combination.

And that’s exactly like me, exactly who I am. Bad — and once you go bad, you can never go back.

WARNING: This book deals with the harsh reality of rape that could be upsetting for some readers.
AP new - excerpt.jpg

“What made you come for me?” she asks.  I tell her my theory about men making decisions based on one of three body parts — head, heart, dick.  “So which led you to my house tonight?” she asks.

“Let’s just say two out of three ain’t bad.”

Her giggle fills up the room.  “Stone?”

“Hmm?”

“Don’t let me forget.”

“Forget what?”

“How good I feel right now,” she says.

I know exactly what she’s feeling.  She doesn’t think she deserves to be happy.  It’s a constant waiting on the other shoe to drop so you can prove to yourself that all the bad shit you fill your head with is true.  That you’re bad, and that’s why bad things happen around you, or to those you love.  Dealt with that myself when Tate got her diagnosis.  Who am I kidding?  I still fight those demons, knowing she’s suffering because of my mistakes.  Self-blame is a bitch.  Self-hatred is even worse.  Guess I’ll just have to teach Campbell to love herself as much as I love her.

Yeah, yeah, it’s fast.  But how long does it really take to fall in love with someone?  A minute?  An hour?  A day?  A year?  For me, it took exactly one kiss.  The moment her lips touched mine in that hospital room, I was gone.

Besides, what do you really have to know about a person to love them?  Not a damn thing other than how they make you feel when you close your eyes at the end of the day with them wrapped in your arms.

Debauched (Undone #3) by Jennifer Dawson

ARC provided in exchange for a honest review.

The Undone series by Jennifer Dawson just keeps getting better and better. I cannot praise Ms. Dawson enough on her writing. Ever character is well written, and is more complex than the last one.

Chad and Ruby are no exception they are complete opposites. The preppy boy with the punk rock girl, yep this makes for a great read. As you all know opposites attract. Heck I can attest to that as I married my polar opposite. The Yin to your Yang, the peanut butter to my Jelly....OK I'm done with the silly euphemisms, but you get my point.

I will say that I was pleasantly surprised in Chad. He is a dominant and not afraid to let people know. But then he lets Ruby drunken cry on his shoulder, and he makes it his life mission to make her happy and have the big O. The dedication that Chad has for Ruby is nothing short of amazing. I mean what guy would do that. Most don't care if you get off, but to have one make it his mission, that's commitment! I WANT A CHAD!

As always Ms Dawson writing is superb! However I am on  hands and knees praying for Brandon's book! I will grovel if need be. I will I swear! Whatever Jennifer has up her sleeve, we can rest-assure that we will be thoroughly entertained.

Panty Melting Factor: 5 panties, but they are not scorching hot panties, more of smoldering hot, that as the book goes on will slowly com-bust into flames.

Filthy (A Stepbrother Romance) #1 by J.L. Beck

ARC provided in exchange of an honest review.

Yes I totally sat down and read this book in one sitting..... DON'T JUDGE ME!

Filthy, the title tells you all you need to know about this book. Talon Reed has a Filthy mouth, he like to fuck filthy, and he is all that Mia wanted. The chemistry between Mia and Talon is scorching hot. From the very first page, you just know that they both want each other. Even if Mia refuses to give into temptation. She wants this Filthy playboy, but doesn't want him to know it. It also doesn't help that her mom just upped and married his father. Now they are stuck together and the attraction continues to smolder until they are both combusting.

This is not the first book I have read by Ms. Beck. I have read her entire Kingpin series, and absolutely loved it. Then I saw she had this book coming out and I couldn't get my hands on it fast enough. If you like dirty taboo books, then pick this one up. It was a quick, easy read that will have you sucked in from page one. You will sit down, start reading it and then the next thing you know you will be flipping the last page cursing that you have no more Talon. I swear it will be like that.

I hope Ms. Beck continues to write Stepbrother books. She has brought a whole new meaning to dirty talking bad boys, who only think about possessing a certain woman. I can't wait to see what she brings to the table next. It is destined to be great, that's for sure.

Panty Melting Factor: Don't even buy panties, like ever. They will burst into flames before you get to the check out. Talon's Filthy mouth will have you so hot and bothered, you honestly won't know what to do with yourself ;)

Score: A Stepbrother Sports Romance by Aubrey Irons

This is the first book that I have read by Aubrey Iron, and I can tell you it was AWESOME!!!

I love stepbrother romance books. There is something so taboo about them that I can't get enough of them. It are hands down my guilty pleasure.Throw in that this one was sports related, and I am even more addicted to them.

This book follows Dalton and Hailey. Sure this book was just like all other stepbrother books, but who cares? Not me that is for sure. I loved the steamy sex scenes, how the characters always resist the attraction, and how the parents were a-okay with the kids hooking up (always a bonus in my world). Dalton is the typical dirty mouthed bad boy who gets reformed by his new stepsister. I love reading about guys that just lose their minds once they find that special someone. Hailey is it for Dalton, and he will do everything in his power to possess her.

I liked how the author portrayed the characters, I felt they were well written and I could totally see them as real people.

I have already downloaded more of Ms. Irons books. If they are anything like this one, I will devour them in one sitting.

Panty Melting Factor: 4.... NO WAIT! 5 panties. Yep 5! Don't judge me, I love a great taboo story!
