She’s nothing more than a weapon, and yet, I find myself wanting to dance with death, to possess her. And I always get what I want.

SECRETS I KEEP by Kelley Harvey

Wow this book is an emotional rollercoaster, several times I had to put it down fromwanting to throw my phone or cry for the wrong in Lily's life.

These types of book are always hard to handle. But the way Jax was with Lily and Sophie, he stole my heart. How he handled the baggage that Lily dumped on him would have caused any man to walk, but he didn't. Their love did conquer the unthinkable.

While this book mad me mad and sad, I loved every second of it, and I can't wait to see what Ms. Harvey  next project will be. I'm sure we won't be disappointed.

Cover Reveal: A Love Letter to Whiskey by Kandi Steiner

Title: A Love Letter to Whiskey
Author: Kandi Steiner
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Cover Design: Quirky Bird

Release Date: October 13, 2016

It’s crazy how fast the buzz comes back after you’ve been sober for so long.

Whiskey stood there, on my doorstep, just like he had one year before. Except this time, there was no rain, no anger, no wedding invitation — it was just us.

It was just him — the old friend, the easy smile, the twisted solace wrapped in a glittering bottle.

It was just me — the alcoholic, pretending like I didn’t want to taste him, realizing too quickly that months of being clean didn’t make me crave him any less.

But we can’t start here.

No, to tell this story right, we need to go back.

Back to the beginning.

Back to the very first drop.

This is my love letter to Whiskey. I only hope he reads it.

Excerpt

(pre-final edits)

The first time I tasted Whiskey, I fell flat on my face.

Literally.

I was drunk from the very first sip, and I guess that should have been my sign to stay away.

Jenna and I were running the trail around the lake near her house, sweat dripping into our eyes from the intense South Florida heat. It was early September, but in South Florida, it might as well have been July. There was no “boots and scarves” season, unless you counted the approximately six weeks in January and February where the temperature dropped below eighty degrees.

As it was, we were battling ninety-plus degrees, me trying to be a show off and prove I could keep up with Jenna’s cheerleading training program. She had finally made the varsity squad, and with that privilege came ridiculous standards she had to uphold. I hated running — absolutely loathed it. I would much rather have been on my surf board that day. But fortunately for Jenna, she had a competitive best friend who never turned down a challenge. So when she asked me to train with her, I’d agreed eagerly, even knowing I’d have screaming ribs and calves by the end of the day.

I saw him first.

I was just a few steps ahead of Jenna, and I’d been staring down at my hot pink sneakers as they hit the concrete. When I looked up, he was about fifty feet away, and even from that distance I could tell I was in trouble. He seemed sort of average at first — brown hair, lean build, soaked white running shirt — but the closer he got, the more I realized just how edible he was. I noticed the shift in the muscles of his legs as he ran, the way his hair bounced slightly, how he pressed his lips together in concentration as he neared us.

I looked over my shoulder, attempting to waggle my eyebrows at Jenna and give her the secret best friend code for “hot guy up ahead”, but she had stopped to tie her shoes. And when I turned back around, it was too late.

I smacked into him — hard — and fell to the pavement, rolling a bit to soften the fall. He cursed and I groaned, more from embarrassment than pain. I wish I could say I gracefully picked myself up, smiled radiantly, and asked him for his number, but the truth is I lost the ability to do anything the minute I looked up at him.

It was an unfamiliar, warm ache that spread through my chest as I used my hand to shield the sun streaming in behind his silhouette, just how you’d expect the first sip of whiskey to feel. He was bent over, hand outstretched, saying something that wasn’t registering because I had somehow managed to slip my hand into his and just that one touch had set my skin on fire.

Handsome wasn’t the right word to describe him, but it was all I kept thinking as I traced his features. His hair was a sort of mocha color, damp at the roots, falling onto his forehead just slightly. His eyes were wide — almost too round — and a mixture of gold, green, and the deepest brown. I didn’t coin the nickname Whiskey until much later, but it was that moment that I saw it for the first time — those were whiskey eyes. The kind of eyes you get lost in. The kind that drink you in. He had the longest lashes and a firm, square jaw. It was so hard, the edges so clean that I would have sworn he was angry with me if it weren’t for the smile on his face.He was still talking as my eyes fell over his broad chest before snapping back up to his sideways grin.

“Oh my God, are you fucking blind?!” Jenna’s voice snapped me from my haze as she shoved Whiskey out of the way and latched onto my hand, ripping me back to standing position. I’d barely caught my balance before she whipped around to continue her scolding. “How about you brush that long ass hair out of your eyes and watch where you’re going, huh champ?”

Oh no.

I didn’t even have time to call dibs, I couldn’t even think the word, let alone say it, before it was too late. I watched it, in slow motion, as Whiskey fell for my best friend before I even had the chance to say a single word to him.

Jenna was standing tall, arms crossed, one hip popped in her usual fashion as she waited for him to defend himself. This was her protocol — it was one of the reasons we got along. We were both what you’d call “spitfires”, but Jenna had the distinct advantage of being cripplingly gorgeous on top of having an attitude. She flipped her long, wavy blonde ponytail behind her and cocked a brow.

And then he did, too.

His smile grew wider as he met her eyes, and it was the same look I’d watched fall over guy after countless guy. Jenna was a unicorn, and men were enamored by her. As they should have been — she had platinum blonde hair, crystal blue eyes, legs for days and a personality to boot. Now, before you go thinking that I was the insecure best friend - I had it going on, too. I worked hard, I was talented - just not at the things traditional high school boys valued.

But we’ll get to that.

“Hi,” Whiskey finally said, extending his hand to Jenna this time. His eyes were warm, smile inviting — if I had to pick the right word for him, just one, I’d say charming. He just oozed charm. “I’m Jamie.”

“Well, Jamie, maybe you should make an appointment with the eye doctor before you run over another innocent jogger. And you owe Brecks an apology.” She nodded to me then and I cringed at my name, wondering why she felt the need to spill it at all. She always called me B — everyone did — so why did she choose the moment I was face to face with the first boy to ever make my heart accelerate to use my full name?

Jamie was still grinning, eying Jenna, trying to figure her out, but he turned to me after a moment with that same crooked smile. “I’m sorry, I should have been watching where I was going.” He said the words with conviction, but lifted his brows on that last line because he and I both knew who wasn’t paying attention to the trail, and he wasn’t the guilty party.

“It’s fine,” I murmured, because for some reason I was still having a difficult time finding my voice. Jamie tilted his head just a fraction, his eyes hard on me this time, and I felt naked beneath his gaze. I’d never had anyone look at me that way — completely zeroed in. It was unnerving and exhilarating, too.

But before I could latch onto the feeling, he turned back to Jenna, their eyes meeting as slow smiles spread on both of their faces. I’d seen it a million times, but this was the first time I felt sick watching it happen.

I saw him first, but it didn’t matter.

Because he saw her.

Taking Tessa by Aria Cole

ARC provided by Ardent PRose in exchange for an honest review.

Aria Cole is the next Alexa Riley. Lord have mercy!

This is the first book I have read by Aria Cole, and to say I am a fan is an understatement.

This is a short, sweet, sexy romance that sucks you in immediately. Detective Cage West is a dominating alpha male, that quickly wormed his way into my book boyfriend list. Holy hotness he can rescue toy damsel in distress any day.

He rescues Tessa who has lived under the rule of her overbearing stepfather for years.  She can't go outside, and had to do everything for the nasty, delusional man. That is until one day when Cage shows up to rescue her. The attraction between these two characters is monumental. The both want each other in a way that just melts your heart.

If you love Alexa Riley, then you will love Aria Cole.

REVIEW of Amore: Part 1 by Bella Jewel

ARC provided by Give Me Books Promotions in exchange for an honest review.

So I signed up for this book not knowing it was a mafia romance. I can't for the life is me get into the genre to save my life.  But let me tell you, this book had changed my way of thinking.

I'm not found to lie, I was a bit apprehensive when I started it, especially when Julietta turns into the other woman. I'm not big on books about that but it really works with this book. Rafael is by far my favorite Mafia Don. His character just oozes sexy dangerous alpha male.

This book has definitely hooked me on the genre and I can't wait to see what Bella Jewel had in store for us.

“It is not love that defines us, Julietta. It is love that destroys us.”

I’m just a normal girl.
Or so you would think.
I’ve never thought of myself as anything different.
Until I met him.
He doesn’t think I’m normal.
He thinks I’m special.
Special enough to be in his life.
Special enough to enter his world.
Special enough for his bed.
Rafael Lencioni. Dangerous. Beautiful. Terrifying.
My story is the one that’s never told.
I’m not the daughter.
I’m not the wife.
I’m not a sister or a mother.
I'm not his enemy and I'm not his friend.
I’m not who you think I am.
So for me to fit into their world, I have to do something I never wanted in my life.
Something I would have frowned upon until I met him.
I have to change who I am.
I have to shut down my heart.
I have to accept my place.
My body belongs to him.
My heart isn’t permitted to.
Those are his rules.
But rules were made to be broken…right?

Flatline (The Trauma Series #2) by Cassia Brightmore

Cassia Brightmore use to be one of my favorite authors, but since she just left me hanging on a HUGE cliffhanger, I have demoted her.

I have not read a dark romance in quite some time, and this was the perfect book to get me back into that genre.

This is the second book in the Trauma Series, and was was completely thrilled on where the book was headed, but then the rug was pulled out from under me. I absolutely love Cian and Athena, and was completely heart broken that Cian is questioning her loyalty. I really hope we don't have to wait very long for the next book (hint hint Cassia, this would help with your excommunication I currently done to you).

Excerpt:

I thrum my fingers on the table. “I have to think about this. I mean, we haven’t even kissed, and we’re discussing marriage. What if I don’t like the way you—” my eyes bulge at the thought of what I was going to say.

A cocky grin appears. Damn him. Why does he have to be so confident? “Like the way I what?” he asks. He knows damn well what I was referring to.

“Never mind.”

“No, I want to know.”

I squiggle around in my seat.

“Does it have anything to do with fucking hard and fast?” he asks, emphasizing the last words and still smiling smugly.

My jaw nearly slams on the table.

“Sheridan, I don’t think you have anything to worry about in that regard.”

My wine glass beckons, so I grab it and chug down the contents.

“Care for some more?” he asks as he waggles his brows.

I can’t answer him, so he pours me a glass anyway. The dog. Then he leans forward and draws a circle on the top of my hand. That circle has a direct path to my girly bits, and it’s not fair at all because I honestly don’t like the man.

“You have to know I like you, and that I’m attracted to you.” What? “I’ve made no secret of it. I wouldn’t be hanging around you or spending time with you otherwise. Even if English liked you, I would’ve steered things in a different direction, made excuses to her, or whatever. But I didn’t. Because I like you. I happen to think you’re gorgeous. And sexy. And funny. And I want to kiss you and do other things, but I walk the straight and narrow because I try to be the best dad I can and set a good example. So there you have it.”

“You think I’m gorgeous and sexy? Why would you think that?” The question popped out before I could stop it.

His expression immediately changes into one of exasperation. “Why wouldn’t I?”

“Because. Guys like you don’t go for girls like me.”

Guys like me? What’s that supposed to mean?” He not only is surprised, but sounds borderline insulted by my statement.

“Look at me.”

“That’s what I’m doing.”

“No, I mean, haven’t you seen me? And you … you’re all, well, you could have any woman you wanted.”

“First, you act as though I’m blind. Second, I like what I see. And third, I want what’s right here.”

“That doesn’t make sense.”

“Sheridan, I’m a photographer. I have a very good eye.”

“You may, but you haven’t seen me naked.” Then I clamp my hand over my mouth. Why the hell do I always say shit like this? I’m forever putting my foot in my mouth.

“Is that an offer?” he asks with an arched brow.

“What would your guy friends say about me?”

He lets out a derisive laugh. “Guy friends? I’m a twenty-five-year-old single dad. I was nineteen when English pretty much fell into my life. All my guy friends were frat rats who were more interested in fucking a different girl every weekend and getting as drunk as possible before they did it. Do you think they were interested in me with an infant? My guy friends dropped me like I had the fucking plague. The closest thing I have to guy friends is my dad. Parents with kids English’s age are usually older than me, married with a family, and don’t want to hang out with a young single dad. So my friends are nonexistent.”

Our fingers are touching, and his explanation suddenly makes him more appealing to me. I want this man. In my bed. I want to find out if we’re sexually compatible. But I’m pretty damn sure he’d be disappointed. On the other hand, what do I have to lose? Okay, rejection is pretty hard to take, but it sounds as though he’s sort of into me. Or at least he’s putting on a good show. At least he’s honest about what he wants from me, and it’s all out in the open.

“Is English coming home tonight?”

“No,” he says, smiling. “Wanna test out my big bed and play roll ’em?”

I start laughing so hard I can’t stop. “I can’t.”

“Why not?”

“I have this damn boot.”

“I have an idea,” he says with a twinkle in his eye.

“What’s that?”

“You can do the rolling, and I’ll do the jumping.”

With the most serious face I can manage, I ask, “Didn’t your mom ever teach you?”

“Teach me what?”

“Not to jump on the bed.”

His eyes narrow, and he says, “Yeah, but it’s my bed, and I can do whatever I want in it.”

“I have to sleep on it.”

“We can do that, too, if you want.”

I laugh. “Not your bed. I have to sleep on the whole marriage thing. This is a lot to take in. And as much as I’d like to play roll ’em with you, I think I need to wait until this boot is a part of my past.”

With half-hooded eyes, he says, “Chicken.”

He may be right. What if we end up in the sack and I want him way more than he wants me? Or what if he thinks I’m a huge zero? And that my thighs look like they belong on an elephant instead of a human?

“Why don’t we go back to my place and watch a movie or something? I have another bottle of wine there, and we can talk about this some more.”

I shake my head. “I have a better idea. Why don’t you come to my place instead?” He knows very little about me, and if he truly wants to do this, he needs to find out more about who I am.

“Okay, let’s go.”

Shielding Lily by Alexa Riley

ARC provided by Ardent PRose in exchange for an honest review!

Another Alexa Riley book that is amazing. While this book was by far the tamest book of theirs I have read, I had no troubles reading it. Ren is every high school girls dream man. Smart, sexy, and broady. Where was this dude when I was in school?

Lily is the opposite of Ren. She has no friends isn't popular and has a craptastic home life. But the moment she walks into her new school, her life changes for the better. Ren has just fallen head over heals for the new girl, and he will stop at nothing to make her his.

As I said, this is a tame book. This is more about finding the love of your life than anything else. Ren and Lily were made for each other and Alexa Riley did a magnificent job bringing their characters to life. Another favorite to add to my must reads of the year.
